I’ve worn these on multiple hill days over late summer and autumn. The fabric is infused with the chemical permethrin, a synthetic version of a naturally occurring substance that has insect repellent qualities. Knowing a few people over the years who have contracted Lyme disease, and have had a miserable time as a result, I’m pretty paranoid about tick bites – so I was very keen to test these. I’ve not had any tick bites or noticed any ticks or noticed any ticks on my legs while wearing them… so I take that as a good sign! The same tech is used by the US Army apparently. The makers claim the protective qualities will last up to 70 washes, which is pretty impressive. These are very comfortable, durable trousers. The lightweight fabric is nice and stretchy and very fast drying after any shower. The right hip pocket has a handy wee inner pocket for keys or other valuables.
