Merino wool is a natural fibre which is produced by various species of merino sheep.

Many associate wool products to be irritable and rough against the skin, however, Merino is well known for its warmth and soft feel against the skin,
and is regarded as one of the best options for use in baselayers.

Our 80-20 Merino mix gives an increased durability compared to pure Merinowool.

It is naturally lightweight, thermal, antibacterial, UV resistant and comfortable against the skin.

If you do any kind of outdoor activity, you’ll be aware of the importance of a good base layer to keep you warm. Fed up with freezing walks, I was keen to try the merino wool top from Keela. Merino wool is known for being particularly soft but it has other great qualities too. It regulates body temperature, meaning you’ll be warm in winter and cool in the summer. It dries very quickly and is odour-resistant – perfect if you’re working up a sweat.

Merino really is a bit of a wonder material for thermals and base layers – it’s naturally warm but breathable and it wicks away sweat, so it’s perfect if you’re getting active.

It also naturally resists odors – ideal if you’re camping or skiing in the backcountry for several days at a time, without the luxury of changing your base layers – and it is soft and comfy against the skin, unlike other wool base layers,which can be scratchy.

Merino can be expensive, but we reckon Keela’s simple, crew neck, long-sleeved base layer is well worth its sensible price tag – it’s smart, easy to wear with everything, great quality and should last you for years of outdoor adventures.

During several runs it didn’t constrict my movement at all. It was loose and stretchy enough, yet still felt like a second skin – which was really important. On a couple of very cold winter days I layered it underneath another top and a jacket and it kept me warm enough without getting too hot. For extra icy cold days I’d probably go for a thicker material, but it’s still the ideal running top for layering.

After a month of testing, I really liked the KEELA merino top. It acts as a great base layer, keeping me warm but not too hot when running due to trapping the warmth where necessary. I love the soft, lightweight feel of the material too.

Its kept me cosy on my colder runs while regulating my temperature. When I first felt the material, I thought I would be sweatier than usual, but it does an excellent job of ventilating and bottles odour brilliantly.
