At some point, even the toughest gear reaches the end of the road. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the story.
Second Life is our way of giving worn-out outdoor kit a new purpose - and keeping it out of landfill. Whether it’s a jacket that’s seen a hundred hikes or a fleece that's been on your back for years, we believe there’s still life in those materials.
How it works
When your item is beyond repair, you have two options:
- Send it back to us
Our in-house team of makers will transform your old gear into something new: from pouches and gym bags to wash bags and aprons. Contact us at enquiries@keela.co.uk to book your end-of-life garment in with our production team
- Prefer to get hands-on?
Use our step-by-step video guides on our YouTube channel to upcycle your gear at home and create something one-of-a-kind. We also offer open-source patterns that we’re happy to send you – so you’ve got everything you need to get started.
Project 1
Drawstring Bag
Turn your old kit into a bag for holding all your bits and pieces
Materials needed:
1. End-of-life jacket
2. Cord toggle (from jacket)
3. Cord (from jacket)
4. Polycotton thread that matches main fabric
Equipment needed:
1. Basic sewing machine
2. Fabric scissors
3. Seam Ripper
4. Tape measure
5. 5mm eyelet kit (Optional)
6. Overlocker (Optional)

Project 2
Dog Coat
Turn your old kit into a new(-ish) jacket for your dog!
Materials needed:
1. End-of-life jacket
2. 2.5cm plastic buckle
3. 2.5cm webbing
4. Polyester thread to match main fabric colour
Equipment needed:
1. Basic sewing machine
2. Fabric scissors
3. Seam Ripper
4. Tape measure
5. PDF pattern – printer, paper, paper scissors, sticky tape
Or
Self-draft pattern – set square, pencil, pattern paper
6. Overlocker (Optional)
