Our Favourite Wee Adventures Across the UK

You don’t have to go far, to feel far away.

At Keela, we believe adventure isn’t just found in far-off places or week-long expeditions. Sometimes, the best moments come from a wee wander close to home - when the air’s crisp, your boots are muddy, and there’s not a soul in sight except a few curious sheep.

So in the spirit of the Wee Days Oot range, we’ve put together some of our favourite short escapes across the UK - easy to reach, hard to forget, and perfect for spontaneous summer days when you just need to get out.

1. Fife Coastal Path – Fife, Scotland

Stretching over 100 miles from Kincardine to Newburgh, the Fife Coastal Path is packed with wild cliffs, fishing villages, sea caves, and history. You don’t have to do it all - pick a stretch between Elie and Anstruther for golden beaches, puffins, and a chippy at the end.

Perfect for: coastal rambles, seabird spotting, and long walks broken by short ice cream stops.

2. The Pentland Hills – Edinburgh, Scotland

Just a stone’s throw from the capital, the Pentlands offer rugged terrain, sweeping views, and trails for all abilities. Whether you’ve got an hour or a whole afternoon, there’s a route to suit - from a breezy stroll around Harlaw Reservoir to a windier trek up Scald Law.

Perfect for: post-work hikes, sunrise starts, and beginner-friendly wild weather walks.

3. Easedale Tarn – Grasmere, Lake District

This short but stunning walk starts in Grasmere and takes you up to Easedale Tarn via tumbling waterfalls and lush green fells. It’s one of the lesser-travelled routes in the Lakes - ideal for a quiet moment with your flask and a sandwich.

Perfect for: scenic dips, quick hill fixes, and literary charm.

4. The Quiraing – Isle of Skye

A bit more remote, but still doable in a day if you’re in the Highlands. The Quiraing’s dramatic cliffs and rock formations feel otherworldly - like something out of a fantasy film. Yet the circular route is under 7km, making it a mighty short wander.

Perfect for: jaw-dropping photos, moody skies, and a wee bit of feeling small in a good way.

5. Mam Tor – Peak District

Known as the "Shivering Mountain," Mam Tor is a brilliant quick summit with panoramic views over Edale and the Hope Valley. It's especially beautiful at golden hour - and reachable in under an hour from Sheffield or Manchester.

Perfect for: sunset climbs, picnics with a view, and family-friendly fun.

6. Holy Island of Lindisfarne – Northumberland

Accessible only at low tide via a causeway, Lindisfarne feels like a proper escape -despite being just off the northeast coast. With castle ruins, coastal trails, and puffins (if you’re lucky), it’s a perfect wee day oot that feels like a world away.

Perfect for: tidal timing, history lovers, and windy beach strolls.

7. Ben A’an – Trossachs, Scotland

Often called "the mountain in miniature," Ben A’an is a bite-sized climb with big views over Loch Katrine and the surrounding glens. It’s steep but short - the kind of walk that rewards effort tenfold.

Perfect for: a morning mission, beginner Munro baggers (even though it’s not a Munro), and that classic loch-and-heather vibe.

8. South West Coast Path – Cornwall Snippets

You don’t need to do the whole thing - just pick a stretch. Try Port Isaac to Polzeath for dramatic cliff paths and pastel fishing villages, or Lizard Point for wild sea air and coastal flora.

Perfect for: sea breezes, salty chips, and coastal clears-the-head kind of walks.

9. Bunnet Stane – Auchtermuchty, Fife

A hidden gem near Keela HQ, the Bonnet Stane is a curious mushroom-shaped rock formation tucked into the hillside above Auchtermuchty. A short, steep walk leads you there - with sweeping views over the Howe of Fife once you’re up.

Perfect for: geology lovers, quiet escapes, and something just a wee bit odd and brilliant.
