I’ve had the Pinnacle jacket for over two years and gave it ‘Best Buy’ when I reviewed it for The Great Outdoors. It’s well-designed with an excellent wired hood and I’ve found it suitable for use in the worst winter weather due to the
thick fabric. It has good pockets too and underarm zips.

Overall, the Pinnacle is a superb, rugged jacket. On this cool, damp, breezy day on the lower slopes of An Teallach, it was ideal, especially when there was a blast of heavy rain and wind.

Outdoor brand Keela has called the rugged, picturesque landscapes surrounding the Scottish town of Glenrothes their home since 1989. This means the company knows a thig of two when it comes to designing lightweight gear that’ll keep you out of trouble when you head above sea level.

With these credentials in mind, it probably comes as no surprise that Keela’s Pinnacle Jacket is the go-to choice in our round-up for hill walkers, mountain climbers, and scramblers. It weighs just 450g and benefits from what’s known as Aquaflex Extreme three-layer: a fabric construction that provides uncompromising levels of waterproofing and breathability, whatever higher-altitude terrain you’re tackling.

You get plenty of other clever features too, such as vents under the arms that can be opened when your adventures intensify to improve airflow and keep you cool and comfortable. Long gone are the days of having to waste
time altering your layering to match your activity level.

I also like the fully adjustable helmet-compatible hood. And if we’re talking about storage, Keela’s Pinnacle Jacket has definitely got you covered. You get two roomy, zipped hip pockets and two upper pockets that are big enough to fit an OS map, which you’ll be glad of if your phone signal drops out and you need a bit of old-school assistance with navigation.

Big burly fully specified waterproof jackets designed for the winter mountains are usually expensive. The Pinnacle is an exception. It has all the features and performance of other jackets at a much lower cost. It has an excellent wired
hood, roomy pockets, and underarm zips.

The Pinnacle is a classic, durable outershell jacket design for which anyone interested in spending time outside must own. It’s a tried and tested multi-discipline piece of gear that many brands produce, but for sure Keela’s version is up there with the best. Great for the belayer, scrambling, hiking, biking or snowsports.

From our experiences, the Keela Pinnacle offers the same kind of protection and performance that you’d get from a £300 Gore-tex jacket, just at a much lower price.

Keela is a Scottish brand that does things a little differently to some of the more well-known brands. Its designers think outside of the box, coming up with their own fabrics and clever design details, and this results in great products like this.

It’s a useful, versatile jacket with some really nice details, including glove-friendly zipper tabs, a big moldable peak, two-way zips and huge vents at the armpits. We found the three-layer fabric to be protective and durable and it has a slight bit of stretch to it to give that touch more of dynamism when you’re reaching up for a hold in this thing.

From our experience using the Pinnacle, we’d call it your three-season work horse. It’s the kind of jacket that will come in handy for anything from alpine-style climbing through to scrambling, hillwalking and just day-to-day use. The cut was noteworthy too; we found it to be loose enough to accommodate a thick layer of insulation underneath but it didn’t come across as bulky or baggy either.
