20 YEARS OF ADVENTURE IN THE MUNRO JACKET

Two decades, three repairs, and countless adventures - this Munro Jacket proves what long-lasting kit is really made of.

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming back a very special Munro Jacket into our Clothing Hospital. This one belonged to local customer, Rab, and it’s been with him for over 20 years. That’s two decades of wind, rain, snow, mud, and everything else the Scottish hills could throw at it. And despite the miles it’s travelled and the weather it’s endured, Rab’s Munro is still standing - and more importantly, still working!

20 Years, Two Munro Rounds, and Still Going

"I started hillwalking in 2004 and rapidly realised that the gear I had was hopelessly inadequate. I therefore visited a local independent outdoor shop in Dunfermline and was impressed by the Keela jacket. It was lightweight, as it had no inner fleece, but was assured by the owner, an experienced hillwalker himself, that it was wind and waterproof. I have never regretted buying the jacket. Twice round all the Munros, including all the Skye ridge in a single day and various other 'big' days, as well as lots of climbing and cycling, for example, John O'Groats to Gretna, and always wearing this jacket because the initial qualities of lightness but also weatherproof have sustained over that time. It has been repaired, after I ripped the arm as a result of a fall on Bidean nam Bian on 27th June, 2010, and thereafter has given excellent service and now needs another repair after it recently caught on a briar on a local walk!

I cannot recommend Keela gear highly enough and have other products from them but this jacket has a special place in my outdoor adventures."

REPAIRING KIT SINCE THE 1980'S

Rab’s jacket has travelled up each Munro - twice - and has clearly seen a lot of action. Like any well-used piece of kit, it had its fair share of battle scars. That’s where our repairs team stepped in.

We’ve been repairing kit since the 1980s, and that experience matters. We know that a good jacket doesn’t need replacing - it needs the right care to keep going. So we carefully mended a large rip on the left chest, reinforced the frayed cuffs, and patched a tear along the hem. Our goal? To extend the life of the jacket without compromising its performance or character - because every mark on a jacket like this tells a story.

And the result? A refreshed Munro Jacket, still weather-ready, still full of life, and still very much Rab’s.

We were delighted to help bring this jacket back to life for its owner. Our talented team at Keela HQ in Glenrothes worked carefully to repair the jacket, ensuring it was as ready as ever for future adventures.

At Keela, we understand that outdoor gear is more than just equipment - it’s a part of your journey. Our team takes great pride in the work they do, and we were thrilled to see this jacket restored to its former glory. This repair is a reminder that the memories made in your gear don’t have to end with wear and tear; with a little care, they can keep going.

Whether it’s a small fix or a more extensive repair, our team in Glenrothes can help extend the life of your Keela kit so it’s ready for your next adventure. To learn more about our repair service and how we can help you keep your gear going strong, click here for more details.
