Fabric Technology
SDP Condensation Control
SDP was originally developed for use in Military applications, and has gone on to be used by Tactical Forces, Mountain Rescue and Emergency Services requiring performance clothing that works as hard as they do.
It has become a popular choice with the outdoor community and has been used to conquer the world’s toughest mountain summits and survive the harshest Arctic conditions.
In recognition of SDP’s success, Keela was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation, one of the UK’s most prestigious awards, which recognises outstanding achievement in the categories of international trade, innovation and sustainable development. Keela are grateful for the recognition of their innovations and continue to further develop System Dual Protection to ensure our customers know they can face the elements with confidence and in comfort.
Reviews
Adventure Travel Magazine – “Great all round winter jacket – 5 stars.”
The Keela Munro has gained legendary status in the Adventure Travel office over the last 12 years. We’ve used this jacket on a hike across Iceland, climbing high peaks in the Alps and the Himalaya and walks in all terrains and conditions.
Not as warm as an insulated ski jacket but far warmer than a standard waterproof jacket, the Munro is a genuine go anywhere do anything item of clothing that comes with great breathability and it dries out quickly when wet. It’s got every feature you need and then some – snow skirt, useful pockets and a great wired hood – and would be spot on for winter mountaineering, skiing, boarding, hiking etc. Great all round winter jacket – 5 stars.
OE Magazine – “makes an excellent option if you’re after one really well specced jacket for year-round use”
The Munro has a very sound pedigree, having become the jacket of choice for a number of mountain rescue teams in the UK. It’s not that light as it’s packed full of features, one of which is a dual protection system.
Combine this with a highly wickable liner to improve breathability and you have a jacket that can be used pretty much year round unless you’re in especially warm conditions. There are all the essential features you’d expect on any serious bit of mountain wear.
The Munro also has a really nice fit, feels just ‘right’ when you’re wearing it and makes an excellent option if you’re after one really well specced jacket for year-round use.
Neil Cudlipp – “Thanks for producing a jacket that will give me years of fun and could save my life!”
I have recently bought a Keela Munro jacket from the Camouflage Shop in Paignton Devon England. This jacket is brilliant; it has classic technical features as well as up to the minute state of the art features and materials. I love it.
I couldn’t find another jacket anywhere near this quality or design from the other top brands. You seem to be the leaders in Europe of kit that is top quality, practical, technical and reliable. Thanks for producing a jacket that will give me years of fun and could save my life!
The Independent- “waterproof, warm and versatile”
It’s sturdily waterproof, with rugged features including double storm flaps over the central zip, a huge protective chin guard and an excellent hood with a wired peak… there’s no doubt this is a waterproof, warm and versatile jacket designed for tough conditions.
NATIONAL WORLD - "WATERPROOF, WINDPROOF AND BRETAHABLE IN EQUAL MEASURE".
As the name suggests, the Munro jacket is perfect for climbing large hills and is waterproof, windproof and breathable in equal measure.
This is a flagship jacket for the brand, at what we think is still quite a reasonable price for the specs, and we especially liked the abrasion resistant 2-layer fabric - the jacket’s a favourite for mountain rescue and those heading out into harsher conditions.
We found it fits a little large, as it’s built for winter conditions and layering underneath, so bear that in mind when purchasing.
Outdoors Magic - "This is just about as protective as waterproof jackets get."
This is just about as protective as waterproof jackets get. In fact, we can’t think of any other jacket we’d want with us when we’re out on a Scottish mountain and all hell is letting loose.
This might be too heavy to serve as the kind of jacket for summer hiking, where it’s likely to spend a lot of time your backpack, but if you’re in the market for a burly fortress of a jacket to wear on cold and wet weather mountain adventures – and it would probably also make a decent ski jacket as well – this one’s a compelling option, especially when you consider the relatively reasonable price tag.
The Munro uses a material called System Dual Protection. It’s essentially a 2-layer hard shell that combines a waterproof and windproof outer fabric with a special drop liner. The laminated face fabric keeps water out, while a high wicking hydrophilic mesh inner draws moisture away from the body. Between the two layers, an air gap creates a natural thermal barrier, protecting against heat loss.
Does it work? Well, yes, in certain conditions. On test the Munro proved to be breathable enough when its pit zips were opened up, and the double-layer construction gives it a reassuring protective feel too.
