Reviews

The Climber magazine – “Super light, super packable and super warm, the Belay is the perfect companion”

The Belay Jacket is a functional insulated jacket from Keela. Super light, super packable and super warm, the Belay is the perfect companion for missions into the hills at any time of the year. Using Primaloft which is not as susceptible to saturation with water, this jacket is ideal for keeping you warm in damp conditions. Perfect for everything from tramping to winter mountaineering, and its not so fat that you can’t fit it under a shell. Velcro cuffs and lycra binding on the waist hem keep the drafts out, and a soft wicking fabric keeps the neck lining and front pockets warm. The garment cut is basic but it is otherwise awesome value for money and a garment that will give you years of comfort.

Adventure Travel Magazine – “Competitively priced. Spot on performance”

Keela have a reputation for knocking out no fuss products that do the job well at competitive prices and this is a perfect example of that. Lightweight, small packsize with highly respected Primaloft insulation. There are two fleece lined handwarmer pockets, inner ziped pocket, elasticated hem, high neck with fleece collar. Good cut and fit with no restriction of movement. Velcro adjustable cuffs. We’re sitting here thinking of a reason why we shouldn’t buy it…no can’t think of one.In a line: Competitively priced. Spot on performance.

Nepal Himilayan Expedition – “An extremely durable, light and unbelievably warm jacket”

The Belay Jacket is without doubt on of the best garments produced by Keela. It was perhaps the most versatile, useful and most worn item of Keela clothing worn on the month long expedition. It was worn everyday and it even sufficed as the main outer garment at over 5500m on a remote and chilling glacier. It also proved useful as a night time pillow. On the summit day it was used as part of the mid layer system along with the Summit Top and the Munro Jacket. In complete contrast we wore it travelling to Nepal because it looked smart and was very versatile as a travelling garment. By the end of the expedition the Belay Jacket was in need of a wash but was completely undamaged and showed no signs of the extensive use it received on the expedition. An extremely durable, light and unbelievably warm jacket; even keeping us very comfortable at 550m on a remote and cold Himalayan Glacier. Following a hand wash the Belay Jacket looks as good as new.

Everest4Heroes – “Simple robust design, giving good warmth to weight ratio”

Alps:- Worn for 10 days in French Alps Aug/Sept, on Via Ferrata, Alpine grade AD Ground and for Rock Climbing. Also worn by Damon on Kilimanjaro up to 5895m – 19,340 feet in Sept/Oct. Simple robust design, giving good warmth to weight ratio. Very warm when stood around. Overall – A warm comfortable jacket, giving a good feeling of security knowing it’s in your rucksack if required. Damon used as his insulating layer on Kilimanjaro for 3 successive ascents in minus 10 degrees with only a Keela T-shirt and fleece mid layer under it and loved the ease and simplicity of this functional lightweight layering system. It even stood up to the local laundry service in Tanzania. A great synthetic insulating jacket that will be our first choice for wet or cold days at moderate altitude

Andy Davidson – “a great investment as an all-round winter warmer.”

After moaning about my cold commutes I received two emails from readers who both suggested the same thermal jacket from Keela, as they’re used by mountain rescue teams. And I’m thankful they did because the Belay Pro quickly became my go-to thermal and the only mid-layer I wear for my commute and road testing duties. It’s incredibly light and packs up small in my bag, but most importantly it compresses under my outer jacket so it’s super-comfortable and incredibly warm. It’s also water-resistant so I can wear the jacket on its own when I’m walking about. And it’s wind-resistant too, which does away with the need for extra layers.

Combat and Survival – “The Belay is a generous fit to allow freedom movement”

Belay is a perfect garment for those that may have to be static for some time and then highly active requiring freedom of movement. Jacket has a scoop hem to protect lower back and kidneys. High collar and loose fit allows movement.

Country Walking – “there’s a sign of a good jacket; it edged me out there”

I found that pulling on the Belay Pro was much akin to climbing into a sleeping bag. Leaning into the driving winds of Dartmoor, the jacket conjured up that same feeling of snug sanctuary – except that rather than snuggling down into sleep, I was equipped to head out onto the cold and lonely moors. Not only equipped, but actively wanting to venture out – and there’s the sign of a good jacket; it edged me out there. The Belay Pro is filled with with a synthetic down called Primaloft which has the distinct advantage over natural down of staying warm even when wet. Synthetic down doesn’t always feel as cosy as the ‘real’ stuff, but I had no complaints on that front. I was also impressed with its weatherproofing.
